Incoming FreshmenThe minimum eligibility requirements to be considered for Freshmen Academic Scholarships are a 27 ACT test score or a 1220 SAT test score and a 3.0 high school GPA. In order to be considered for Freshmen Academic and General University Scholarships, all required credentials must be postmarked by December 1 of your senior year of high school.Required credentials include test scores (from the testing agencies), a high school transcript, an application for admission, and the required application fee. If the student presents multiple ACT and/or SAT test scores, the highest of the composite test scores will be utilized. If accepted to Auburn University by the December 1 deadline, students meeting the above criteria will be automatically considered for a Freshmen Academic and General University Scholarship. All Freshmen Academic Scholarship awards include a "Reponse Form" that must be returned to the Scholarship Office by May 1. Freshmen Academic Scholarships are awarded in December. National Merit, Achievement and Hispanic Finalist who name Auburn University as their first choice instituion are automatically awarded a Freshmen Academic Scholarship valued at the rate of in-state tuition. Many of Auburn's General University Scholarship require a demonstration of financial need; therefore, to ensure consideration for this scholarship pool, students must file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Transfer StudentsThe Transfer Scholarship program is designed to reward students of high academic achievement. There are four levels of transfer scholarships for which you may be able to compete: Academic Excellence Scholarship for Transfer Students, Academic Achievement for Transfer Students, AU Book Scholarship for Transfer Students, and Phi Theta Kappa Transfer Scholarship.
Graduate StudentsThe University Scholars Program only offers scholarships to undergraduate, first-degree students. For information partaining to scholarships for graduate studies, contact the college/school in which you are enrolled for additional information.
Guidance CounselorsStudents should apply for admission, submit an official high school transcript and forward all test scores to the University. Because there is not a separate application for scholarships awarded at the University level, a student’s application to the University is his/her application for University scholarships. The minimum requirements for scholarship consideration at the University level are a 27 ACT score and/or a 1220 SAT score as well as a 3.0 high school grade point average. Although we prefer test scores directly from the testing agencies, we will accept test scores recorded on the high school transcript. For the 2004-05 academic year, the deadline for Freshmen Academic and General University scholarship consideration is December 1, 2003. All updated test scores and/or high school transcripts postmarked by December 1, 2003 will be considered.Students who meet these criteria will receive confirmation letters of consideration as they are admitted September to December. Freshman Academic Scholarship recipients will be notified in December 2003, and General University Scholarship recipients will be notified no later than May 1, 2004. Scholarships with preference to demonstrated financial need require completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), available online beginning January 2004 at www.fafsa.ed.gov. Departmental scholarships are awarded within each academic college/school on campus. Students should contact the student services division within the college/school in which they plan to major for departmental scholarship opportunities and requirements. In January, we will send information about the Auburn University Leadership Recognition Scholarship and the License to Learn Valedictorian Scholarship. FAQFrequently Asked Questions1. If I am a student eligible to receive financial aid, can I also receive a scholarship without my financial aid being reduced? If you are receiving financial aid, you will only be eligible to receive scholarship funds to match any additional need. 2. Do you accept the Georgia Hope Scholarship? No. 3. Is it possible for me to obtain scholarships through the university if I wasn’t awarded a scholarship as an incoming freshman? Yes, if you maintain a 3.0 minimum grade point average, you will have opportunities to receive scholarships through your particular school/college, as well as General University Scholarships.
4. How many hours do I have to be enrolled to receive scholarship funds? Students are required to enroll for a minimum of 12 credit hours each semester to receive scholarship funds. If the student registers for less than 12 hours, the scholarship will continue to show as estimated on the Bursar bill until the 12-hour minimum has been met. If the student has fewer than 12 hours after Drop/Add, the scholarship will be canceled for that term. If the student registers for 12 hours then drops below, the scholarship will be charged back for that term. 5. What GPA do I need to maintain to keep my scholarship? Students must maintain a minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA. We do not round GPAs of 2.99 or below up to 3.0. 6. Are Freshmen Academic Scholarships renewable? Freshmen Academic Scholarships are automatically renewable for four years or eight semesters provided the student maintains a cumulative 3.0 GPA. 7. How will I receive my scholarship award? Scholarships are typically divided into two equal payments for fall and spring semesters only. Scholarships are paid on a semester basis through electronic transfers to students’ Bursar accounts, Auburn University’s student billing account. When a scholarship is posted to the student's account, a credit will appear on the bill. Once all University expenses have been met, a refund check will be processed for any unused funds. 8. If I took the ACT or SAT in October and indicated on the test that I wanted my scores sent to Auburn University will you all still accept the scores if they come after the December 1 postmark date? No, all materials for scholarship consideration must be postmarked by December 1. To ensure that the material arrives on time, you may want to utilize the ASR (Additional Score Report) service to speed the delivery process, NOT the scoring process. Scholarships are based on several different criteria which may include county or state of origin, high school, financial need and other specifics. We actually identify all students who meet the criteria for a specific scholarship and award accordingly. 10. Can I receive more than one scholarship? Yes, you can receive scholarships through the University Scholars Program Office as well as the department in which you enroll. 11. How do I apply for scholarships that are specific to my major? You would need to contact that particular college/school to inquire about scholarship applications and deadlines, as each college/school has it's own scholarship process. 12. How do I apply for athletic scholarships? You would need to contact the athletic department to inquire about athletic scholarships.
Who We AreThe University Scholars Program is a division of Student Financial Aid. We award all non-athletic scholarships. Specifically, we award all Freshman Academic and General University Scholarships. We select recipients for scholarships awarded at the University level. We also process all scholarships for which recipients have been selected by colleges/schools/departments of the University and by individuals/ organizations external to the University.
